SUMMARY:Spatial noise filtering through error correction for quantum sensin
 g
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:DAVID LAYDEN - MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MIT)\n\nS
ensors based on quantum effects can measure various external\nquantities\,
such as magnetic fields\, with high precision. Moreover\,\ntheir sensitiv
ity can scale more favourably with their size than is\nallowed classically
  — a property analogous to quantum speedups in\ncomputing. As with quant
um computers\, the performance of quantum\nsensors is limited by decoheren
ce. Quantum error correction (QEC) has\nrecently emerged as a promising ap
proach to mitigate this decoherence\,\nand therefore\, to enhance sensitiv
 ity.
