SUMMARY:Scaling up superconducting quantum computers
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:DAVID P. PAPPAS\, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOG
Y (NIST)\n\nA brief history and overview of the requirements to guide the
research\nand development for high-coherence superconducting quantum circu
its\nwill be given. The main focus will be on materials development at\nNI
ST. Topics will include identifying and mitigating loss due to\namorphous
two-level systems at interfaces and how to scale the\nfabrication of small
aluminum-oxide tunnel junctions. The junctions\nwere studied with atom pr
obe microscopy to get an understanding of\nwhere the oxidation occurs.
