DESCRIPTION:TOPOLOGICAL INSULATOR-SUPERCONDUCTOR HETEROSTRUCTURES AND DEVIC
 ES\n\nLIN LI\, IQC\n\n A 3D topological insulator (TI) has a fully gapped
insulating bulk\nstate but a conducting surface. Such conducting “surfa
ce” states\nare formed with helical Dirac fermions\, with spin-momentum
strictly\nlocked by spin-orbital coupling. When coupled to a conventional
s-wave\nsuperconductor (S)\, the surface state behaves just like the desir
ed\np-wave superconductor. It has been predicted that Majorana zero-modes\
nobeying non-Abelian statistics can appear in such a system.
