SUMMARY:IQC-QuICS Math and Computer Science Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:LDPC QUANTUM CODES: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS\, CHALLENGES AND OPPORT
 UNITIES\n\nNIKOLAS BREUCKMANN\, UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON\n\nQuantum error
correction is an indispensable ingredient for scalable\nquantum computing
 . We discuss a particular class of quantum codes\ncalled \"quantum low-den
sity parity-check (LDPC) codes.\" The codes we\ndiscuss are alternatives t
o the surface code\, which is currently the\nleading candidate to implemen
t quantum fault tolerance. We discuss the\nzoo of quantum LDPC codes and d
iscuss their potential for making\nquantum computers robust with regard to
  noise.
