SUMMARY:IQC Student Seminar featuring Sarah Li
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:IMPROVED SYNTHESIS OF RESTRICTED CLIFFORD+T CIRCUITS\n\nIn quan
tum information theory\, the decomposition of unitary operators\ninto gate
s from some fixed universal set is of great research\ninterest. Since 2013
 \, researchers have discovered a correspondence\nbetween certain quantum c
ircuits and matrices over rings of algebraic\nintegers. For example\, ther
 e is a correspondence between a family of\nrestricted Clifford+T circuits
and the group On(Z[1/2]). Therefore\,\nin order to study quantum circuits
\, we can study the corresponding\nmatrix groups and try to solve the cons
tructive membership problem\n(CMP): given a set of generators and an eleme
nt of the group\, how to\nfactor this element as a product of generators?
Since a good solution\nto CMP yields a smaller decomposition of an arbitra
ry group element\,\nit helps us implement quantum circuits using fewer res
 ources.
