SUMMARY:Quantum Perspectives: Computing
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Quantum computing promises to dramatically alter how we solve m
any\ncomputational problems by controlling information encoded in quantum\
nbits. With potential applications in optimization\, materials science\,\n
chemistry\, and more\, building functional quantum computers is one of\nth
e most exciting challenges in research today. To build and use these\ndevi
ces\, we need to precisely control quantum bits in the lab\,\nunderstand t
he ability and limitations of quantum algorithms\, and find\nnew methods t
o correct for decoherence and other quantum errors.\n\nResearch in quantum
computing is highly multidisciplinary\, with\nimportant contributions bei
ng made from computer scientists\,\nmathematicians\, physicists\, chemists
\, engineers\, and more. In this\npanel\, we’ll learn from three researc
hers at the forefront of the\nfield studying experimental quantum devices\
 , quantum algorithms\, and\nquantum error correction:\n\n* Crystal Senko\,
Assistant Professor\, Institute for Quantum Computing\nand the Department
of Physics\n\n* Shalev Ben-David\, Assistant Professor\, Institute for Qu

tum Perspectives: A Panel Series_ celebrates 20 years of\nquantum at IQC
 \n[https://uwaterloo.ca/institute-for-quantum-computing/about/celebrating-
20-years-quantum-iqc].\nOver the past two decades\, IQC’s leading quantu
 m research has\npowered the development of transformative technologies\, f
rom ideas to\ncommercialization\, through research in theory\, experiment
 and quantum\napplications. This year\, we’re celebrating IQC’s\n20t
 h anniversary with a panel series\n[https://uwaterloo.ca/institute-for-
