Beginning from the early toy models that first\nproposed the formati on of Majorana bound states\, I aim to convey an\nunderstanding of why top ological qubits are so resistant to\ndecoherence. I will introduce the “ ingredients” necessary to build\na Majorana device and some of the chall enges involved. Finally\, I will\ndiscuss the field's current state and wh at might be next on the\njourney to making topological quantum computing a reality.
