DESCRIPTION:AVENUES FOCUSING REFERENCE FRAME INDEPENDENT PROTOCOLS TO\nENH
ANCE FREE SPACE SATELLITE QUANTUM COMMUNICATIONS CHANNELS\n\nFree-space
quantum channels for real world quantum information\napplications are rap
idly emerging\, with Canada developing the quantum\nencryption and science
satellite (QEYSSat). For polarization-based\nsystems\, one challenge is a
ligning the reference frame of the\npolarization states. For example\, the
physical orientation of the\nsatellites is crucial in maintaining the pro
per geometric reference\nframe alignment. However\, reference frame indepe
ndent (RFI) protocols\novercome this issue because they don’t require al
l the polarization\nstates to be fixed. Furthermore\, using time bin encod
ing completely\nremoves the need for a geometric reference\, but presents
its own\nchallenges when used over a free space channel. In this talk\, we
will\ndiscuss the development done at the University of Waterloo towards
the\nuse of reference frame independent protocols for free-space quantum\n
channels. Furthermore\, we will discuss the benefits of using time bin\nen
coding over free-space channels\, and present our implementations of\nsuch
systems and what they mean for future QEYSSat missions and\napplications
 on other platforms.\n\nADD EVENT TO CALENDAR\n\nApple [https://www.addeven
