 fford theory studies the connection between representations of a\ngroup an
 d those of its normal subgroups. In recent work\, I examined\nthe Clifford
  theory of the Clifford group to determine parts of its\ncharacter table f
 or future applications. The goal of this talk is to\nintroduce the represe
 ntation theory and Clifford theory of finite\ngroups sufficiently to under
 stand next week's talk when I will explain\nthe Clifford theory of the n-q
 ubit Clifford group. Note that these are\ntwo distinct Cliffords. I may al
 so briefly discuss the applications of\nClifford theory in quantum error c
 orrection\, time permitting.
