SUMMARY:Quantum data compression

DESCRIPTION:IQC SEMINAR - ZAHRA KHANIAN\, TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MUNICH\n\
n200 University Ave W. Waterloo On Can QNC 1201\n\nIn the seminal 1948 pap
er \"a mathematical theory of communication\"\,\nShannon introduced the co
ncept of a classical source as a random\nvariable and established its opti
mal compression rate\, given by\nShannon entropy. Nearly five decades late
r\, Schumacher rigorously\ndefined the notion of a quantum source and its
compressibility.\nSchumacher's definition involved a quantum system and co
rrelations\nwith a purifying reference system. In our work\, we build upon
\nSchumacher's quantum source model\, extending it to the most general\nfo
rm allowed by quantum mechanics. This extension involves considering\nthe
source and the reference in a mixed state\, along with the presence\nof ad
ditional systems treated as side information. We address and\nsolve variou
s problems posed by these modifications\, determining the\noptimal compres
sion rates. While our work contributes significant\nprogress in quantum so
urce compression\, we point out remaining open\nquestions that require fur
 ther exploration.
