SUMMARY:Building quantum networks: from solid-state defects and Rydberg ato
ms\nin cavities to a new scientific frontier with hybrid quantum systems.
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:IQC SPECIAL COLLOQUIUM - AZIZA SULEYMANZADE\, HARVARD UNIVERSIT
Y\n\n200 University Ave W. Waterloo ON - ZOOM only\n\nThe experimental dev
 elopment of quantum networks marks a significant\nscientific milestone\, p
oised to enable secure quantum communication\,\ndistributed quantum comput
 ing\, and entanglement-enhanced nonlocal\nsensing. In this talk\, I will d
iscuss the recent advancements in the\nfield along with the outstanding ch
allenges through my work on two\ndifferent platforms: Silicon Vacancy defe
cts in diamond nanophotonic\ncavities and Rydberg atoms coupled to hybrid
cavities. First\, I will\npresent our recent results on distributing entan
glement across a\ntwo-node network with on-chip solid-state defects in cav
ities which we\nbuilt at Harvard. We demonstrated high-fidelity entangleme
nt between\ncommunication and memory qubits and showed long-distance entan
glement\nover the 35 km of deployed fiber in the Cambridge/Boston area. Se
cond\,\nI will describe our work at the University of Chicago on using Ryd
berg\natoms as transducers of quantum information between optical and\nmic
rowave photons\, with the goal of integrating Rydberg platforms with\nsupe
rconducting circuits and paving the way for advanced quantum\nnetwork arch
itectures. The talk will conclude with a perspective on\nthe potential of
this hybrid platform approach in constructing quantum\nnetworks\, highligh
ting the uncharted scientific and technological\nopportunities it could un
 lock.
