SUMMARY:IQC Student Seminar Featuring Stephen Harrigan
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TOWARDS AN ON-DEMAND\, ALL-ELECTRICAL SINGLE-PHOTON SOURCE\n\nR
 esearch Advancement Center\, 485 Wes Graham Way\, Room 2009 Waterloo\,\nON
N2L 6R2\n\nSingle-photon sources (SPSs) are an elementary building block
 for\nquantum technologies. An ideal SPS is deterministic\, on-demand and\n
produces exactly one photon per pulse. Additionally\, desirable\nfeatures
 include a high repetition rate\, an all-electrical driving\nmechanism and
compatibility with semiconductor manufacturing\ntechniques. Despite great
advances in the field of single photon\nemitters\, an SPS with all the fea
tures outlined above remains elusive.\nIn this talk\, we will present our
proposed SPS\, consisting of a\nsingle-electron pump integrated in proximi
ty to a lateral PN-junction\,\nwhich would allow our SPS to meet all the c
riteria listed above. We\ndiscuss progress towards our goal\, and also dis
cuss an unconventional\nelectroluminescence mechanism observed during rece
 nt experiments.
