DESCRIPTION:WEIGHT ESTIMATION FOR OPTICAL DETECTION SETUPS\n\nQNC building\
, 200 University Ave. Room 1201\, Waterloo \n\nRealistic models of optica
l detection setups are crucial for numerous\nquantum information tasks. Fo
r instance\, squashing maps allow for more\nrealistic descriptions of the
detection setups by accounting for\nmultiphoton detections. To apply squas
hing maps\, one requires a\npopulation estimation of multiphoton subspaces
of the input to the\ndetection setup. So far\, there has been no universa
l method for those\nsubspace estimations for arbitrary detection setups.\n
\nWe introduce a generic subspace estimation technique applicable to any\n
passive linear optical setup\, accounting for losses and dark counts.\nThe
resulting bounds are relevant for adversarial tasks such as QKD or\nentan
glement verification. Additionally\, this method enables a generic\npassiv
 e detection setup characterization\, providing the necessary\nmeasurement
POVM for e.g. QKD security proofs.
