SUMMARY:Lessons on secure deployment of cryptographic primitives
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:ELENA BAKOS LANG AND KEVIN HENRY\, NCC GROUP\n\nQNC building\
, 200 University Ave. Room 1201\, Waterloo \n\nThe security of cryptograp
hic primitives and protocols is inextricably\ntied to that of the implemen
tations deployed in the real world.\nEnsuring that these implementations a
re as secure as possible is thus\na problem at the heart of cryptographic
security.\n\nThis workshop will introduce common classes of cryptographic\
 nvulnerabilities\, including improper randomness generation\,\nside-channe
 l attacks\, flaws in primitives or protocols\, and others\,\nand discuss s
ecure coding practices that can help mitigate them\, based\non our experie
nces auditing cryptographic code. This discussion will\nbe complemented by
a set of practical exercises to provide experience\nin spotting insecure
constructions. Additionally\, as implementation\nquality is often tied to
the quality of the source material\, we will\npresent a case study on a re
cent widely implemented threshold signing\nprotocol where ambiguous or unc
lear presentation in the academic\nsource material has led to multiple cri
tical implementation\nvulnerabilities.\n\nThis workshop is presented by NC
 C Group Cryptography Services practice\nin Waterloo\, Ontario.\n\nTo atten
d this program please email us at cryptoworks21@uwaterloo.ca\nby July 17\,
  2024.
