SUMMARY:David Gosset: Small gaps\, localization\, and the quantum adiabatic
 \nalgorithm
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT\n\nStoquastic Hamiltonians are the class of Hamiltonia
ns that can be\nstudied numerically using standard Quantum Monte Carlo met
hods--these\nare the Hamiltonians which do not suffer from the sign proble
 m. These\nHamiltonians can also be easier to study analytically because of
their\nconnection to nonnegative matrices. In the first part of this talk
I\nwill review the arsenal of analytic and numerical tools pertaining to\
nstoquastic Hamiltonians. I will then discuss a variational lower bound\nf
or the ground state energy of these Hamiltonians.
