SUMMARY:Stefano Chesi: Spin polarized transmission of holes in quantum\npoi
 nt-contacts with strong spin-orbit coupling
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT\n\nEvidence is presented for the finite wave vector cr
ossing of the two\nlowest one-dimensional spin-split subbands in quantum p
oint contacts\nfabricated from two-dimensional hole gases with strong spin
-orbit\ninteraction. This phenomenon offers an elegant explanation for the
\nanomalous sign of the spin polarization filtered by a point contact\,\na
s observed in magnetic focusing experiments. Anticrossing is\nintroduced b
y a magnetic field parallel to the channel or an\nasymmetric potential tra
 nsverse to it.
