 view of quantum simulation with cold atoms and\nions\, the talk will focus
  on two recent developments. We will first\ndiscuss quantum simulation of 
 lattice gauge theories both from a\ncondensed matter and a high energy phy
 sics point of view. The second\ntopic is open system quantum simulation\, 
 in particular on chiral spin\nnetworks\, their quantum dynamics and realiz
 ation with quantum optical\nsystems.
