SUMMARY:John Martinis: What’s next after Moore’s law: quantum computing
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION: JOHN MARTINIS\, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA\,\nSANTA BARBARA\n\n
As microelectronics technology nears the end of exponential growth\nover t
 ime\, known as Moore’s law\, there is a renewed interest in new\ncomputi
ng paradigms. I will discuss recent research at UCSB on\nsuperconducting q
uantum bits\, as well as our recent start at Google to\nbuild a useful qua
ntum computer to solve machine learning problems. \nA recent experiment w
ill be highlighted that extends the lifetime of a\nqubit state using quant
 um error correction.
