University COVID-19 update

COVID-19 continues to change rapidly across the world and we want to take steps to limit the spread and risks of the disease in our community. With this goal in mind, the University is closed for events until further notice. Visit the University's Coronavirus Information website for more information.

The Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology main office (QNC 3606) is closed until further notice. If you are a student trying to pick up or return a lab/office key, please email for assistance. All other inquires can be directed to For emergencies, contact Campus Police.

Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) Facility

Dr. Zbig Wasilewski at the QNC MBE facility

The state-of-the-art Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) facility was formally inaugurated on June 4th, 2014. The lab houses a Veeco GEN10 MBE system that enables the production of nanomaterials such as sophisticated III/V semiconductors for devices of the future. The facility will support research programs ranging from photonics to quantum computing.

The MBE facility is led by Professor Zbig Wasilewski, WIN Endowed Chair and Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is an acknowledged expert on MBE methods for growing complex, ultrapure, semiconductor materials.
