WIN-Soochow Doctoral Program

The WIN-Soochow Doctoral program welcomes applications from outstanding candidates all around the world!

This program is designed for doctoral students in Nanotechnology related disciplines within the Faculty of Engineering or the Faculty of Science, who wish to continue multi-disciplinary, collaborative research on a joint Canada-China project. The student will earn a PhD from the University of Waterloo, and a certificate in International Research from Soochow University.

The student will be in residency at both UW and Soochow, completing all academic requirements from the UW program and conducting research at Soochow University for 2 years. Participating UW Departments include:

Engineering:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering
  • Systems Design Engineering

Science:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics and Astronomy
  • Pharmacy

Students accepted to this program will be offered a $10,000 USD (~$13,000 CAD) scholarship per year when in residence at UW.

Applicants are encouraged to peruse researcher profiles at both University of Waterloo/Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology and at Soochow University Institute for Functional Nano- and Soft Materials (FUNSOM) to find a research area that is right for you. It is advised to contact potential supervisors directly to discuss joint research projects prior to application.
