Advanced Standing Program preliminary details

Tuesday, December 15, 2020

As the International Optometric Bridging Program nears completion, we are excited to provide some preliminary details about the upcoming Advanced Standing Program at the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry & Vision Science (WOVS).  Advanced Standing students will be required to first complete the Advanced Standing Optometry Preparatory Program (ASOPP).  The program will run each year from April until August and will include didactic and clinical courses, delivered both online and in person. The earliest anticipated start date for ASOPP is April 2022 (subject to change). Upon successful completion of ASOPP, Advanced Standing students will join the third-year optometry class and participate in the third and fourth years of the Doctor of Optometry Program at WOVS.  Upon successful completion, students will earn a Doctor of Optometry degree.

At this time we expect the academic credentialling through FORAC to remain unchanged (https://www.forac-faroc.ca/index.php/international-applicants/applying-in-english/), as well as the Internationally Graduated Optometrist Evaluating Examination (IGOEE) (https://touchstoneinstitute.ca/assessment/igoee/).

Tuition fees have not been finalized for ASOPP, however usual undergraduate optometry tuition in student fees can be expected for years 3 and 4 of the optometry program.

Please check back regularly for updates as details will be released as they become available.
