A foreign language and culture can be exciting, but it may also present a big challenge as you adjust to a new life away from home. As a part of International Student Experience, we offer the following programs to help you adjust to your new surroundings, learn how to effectively communicate with English speakers, and connect with others from your home country.
Global Representative Program Before you come to the University of Waterloo, contact a student from your home country who can answer your questions about life here.
International Peer Community Get matched with upper-year student mentors who will help introduce you to campus life and the Waterloo community.
English Conversation Circles Learn English conversation strategies and tips in a group setting while exploring various aspects of Canadian culture.
We also recommend attending a Babble Cafe (for graduate students) or Throwback Thursday (for undergraduate students), hosted by the International and Canadian Student Network (ICSN), a Federation of Students service.
During the winter holidays we offer free Winterloo care packages to students who aren't going home. Each package features a guide to seasonal events, small gifts and special discounts around town so that you can feel at home in Kitchener-Waterloo and have a jolly holiday.
