Message from the interim assistant vice-president of international affairs Bessma Momani, PhD

Bessma Momani

The University of Waterloo places a significant focus on internationalization. Attracting talent from around the world gives students and researchers increased opportunities to build relationships globally. This creates a dynamic teaching environment that embraces international perspectives and experiences needed to assist students to identify and solve complex global challenges.

Internationalization has been an integral part of my career, and I look forward to working with the Waterloo International team to assist in directing and supporting Waterloo’s goal of becoming one of the most internationalized universities in Canada.

As Waterloo International endeavors to increase the capacity of students, faculty, staff, and alumni to engage internationally, my responsibilities include:

  • Advancing and stewarding internationalization activities, goals, and aspirations
  • Oversight of campus-wide discussions on internationalization strategic plans
  • Oversight of the organization, planning, and hosting of delegation visits from around the world, including universities, public and private sector institutions and civil society organizations
  • Supporting outbound executive international travel
  • Leading innovative international projects, and initiating dialogues to establish linkages between multiple entities

I am excited to be a part of the leadership team at Waterloo International, and I look forward to a remarkable year.
