The Nanotechnology Engineering program is celebrating their 15th anniversary, with ten years of graduating classes! This virtual event will include remarks from the Director of the Nanotechnology program, VIPs and a panel of Nanotechnology alumni who will speak about their careers, advice they may have for students and alumni, their experiences and any mentorship opportunities they offer. All alumni are welcome to join in on this event.

Tune in to the Waterloo Engineering YouTube Channel on September 26 starting at 11:30 am for a live broadcast. You can hear the Dean's Lecture, reminisce and enjoy the slideshow over lunch and then tune in to the famous Back-to-the-classroom lecture with Prof. Larry Smith.

You will even have the opportunity to join some of your classmates and fellow alumni for virtual beers at 2 pm.

What are the contributions that international development can make in addressing COVID-19? What does the future hold for international development? Please join us for a conversation between international development practitioners and policy makers on the implications the global community faces in the COVID-19 era, the security challenges, and the future of international development projects during a global pandemic.

As COVID-19 continues to hit our urban areas hardest, what makes our cities attractive also makes them most vulnerable to the virus. Mass transit, the concentration of people and capital, and planned density all aid in the spread of the virus. In a rush to interpret an uncertain future, some theorists have suggested 70-years of rapid global urbanization might be over. But has the death of cities been greatly exaggerated?

Calling all alumni and current students to compete in the first AMAZING SCIENCE RACE! Register to join us for a race around the world of science including special guest video appearances from faculty, alumni and MORE! Each mission will be assigned a unique number of points based on the difficulty of the question or challenge. All missions can be completed virtually from around the world! The Race will begin at 9AM on Friday September 25th and run until Sunday, September 27th to allow for alumni and students across the globe to compete!

A successful international work experience requires careful planning for it to be a satisfying and fulfilling experience for you. In an average year, Co-operative Education facilitates ~1000 international co-op work term across 55+ countries. Based on our experience in supporting students with their international aspirations, we have developed some best practices and resources that we would like to share to help you plan your dreams systematically. Experts from the Office of Research will also share their tips on pursuing research experiences abroad.

Whether you're a new postdoc or a continuing postdoc at the University of Waterloo, be sure to attend the Postdoc Services Fair! Hear directly from those who provide postdoc services, ranging from writing, career and research support to human resources, athletics, immigration and health services. A link to the virtual services fair will be sent to all postdocs on Thursday, September 24. No registration is required.

Join the Sustainability Office for an interactive discussion on how to practice sustainable living, wherever you are. Students will leave with tangible takeaways and resources for topics like zero waste living, healthy food choices, connecting with nature, and more!

Grab some basic watercolor paint supplies, your spouse and kids, and log in for a special virtual postdoc paint nite class, led by local artist Candice Leyland. Learn to paint a starry sky featuring the aurora borealis in watercolour. Great for a variety of skill levels including absolute beginners. You'll need a few supplies (most of which can be gathered from a dollar store or your local art store).
