Waterloo Engineering is celebrating International Education Week from September 21 to 25. Three of our students share what they learned from spending an academic or co-operative exchange term overseas last year. Hear the highlights of their experiences from embracing a new culture to discovering a new favourite cheese.

Some Engineering students have created a 3:00 – 5:00 minute video vignette sharing their experience on an international exchange. Students will share ‘The global perspective they’ve gained through travel, study, and/or work abroad’ which is the theme of the photo contest as well. Topics covered in the video may include: Where they went, highlights of their experience and what they learned. Videos will be shared through Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, etc. Videos will be shared on September 21, 22 and 24, 2020.

Learning an additional language provides an opportunity to explore the diverse world around you. The Culture and Language Studies department offers a diverse range of language courses. Throughout the week, you’ll hear from our students on how language learning has helped them become active participants in a multilingual world. Check our Instagram @renisoncollege to view videos throughout the week!

As a thank you for all of your hard work as a valued postdoctoral fellow, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to offer you the opportunity to pick up a free gift: a postdoc t-shirt from the Waterloo store. Supplies are limited and must be picked up in-person at the W Store Essentials pick up spot in the Student Life Centre between September 21 and October 2. We will keep some t-shirts aside for those unable to travel to campus during COVID-19 and will allow you to pick them up once the campus is fully operational. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship these items.

They’ll answer your questions, tell you what it’s like to live and learn in another culture (and maybe language!) and share the challenges and benefits of pursuing an exchange.

Whether you're a new postdoc or a continuing postdoc at the University of Waterloo, be sure to attend the Postdoc Services Fair! Hear directly from those who provide postdoc services, ranging from writing, career and research support to human resources, athletics, immigration and health services. A link to the virtual services fair will be sent to all postdocs on Thursday, September 24. No registration is required.

A successful international work experience requires careful planning for it to be a satisfying and fulfilling experience for you. In an average year, Co-operative Education facilitates ~1000 international co-op work term across 55+ countries. Based on our experience in supporting students with their international aspirations, we have developed some best practices and resources that we would like to share to help you plan your dreams systematically. Experts from the Office of Research will also share their tips on pursuing research experiences abroad.
