Waterloo is pleased to host scholars in each of our six faculties. We have procedures for three types of visiting scholars:

Visiting student or faculty research scholars (non-credit)

Scholars (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral fellows, or faculty) working in areas of mutual interest are approved on a case by case basis by individual departments or research centres. Scholars are responsible for travel and living costs, Waterloo's mandatory health insurance plan, and any other miscellaneous costs. No administration or tuition fees are required.

Application inquiries for visiting research scholars should be directed to the faculty/department/research centre. Contact information can be found on the Faculties and Academics webpage.

Please direct questions to Frances Hannigan, Immigration Specialist.

Visiting graduate students (non-degree)

Many factors are taken into consideration for graduate studies admissions. Most importantly, your previous academic record: courses taken, degree received, overall standing, reference letters, etc.

Once you have found a specific program that you are interested in, please contact potential supervisors and the department(s) directly for specific admission questions. More information is available through Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs.

Application inquiries for visiting graduate students (non-degree) should be directed to Julie MacMillan, Manager, Graduate Admissions.
