The University of Waterloo Open Data API ( is a service maintained and operated by IST. The seminar will explore the importance and utility of Open Data in general and the Application Programing Interface (API) approach to delivering Open Data in comparison to other methods. Furthermore, the latest changes to the Open Data service and related projects will be discussed. Within the department, Open Data plays an important role for both the Waterloo Content Management System (CMS) and Student Success Office-Sponsored Student Portal Projects. Aside from the aforementioned use cases, other uses of Open Data will be examined. Time will be left at the end of the seminar to share your Open Data stories. While the seminar will examine the fairly technical subject of APIs, it will be delivered in a way that it is accessible to all.
