This workshop will introduce TAs to LEARN (from Desire2Learn), our course management system for presenting course activities and resources in fall term courses.
Audience: Teaching Assistants
This workshop is a Q&A session with LEARN experts who will not only answer your questions, but demonstrate and walk you through the setup if needed. By the end of this session, TAs will be able to use the D2L environment to communicate with students, have basic knowledge of the tools available within D2L, and enter grades. TAs should be enrolled in the course they will be working in as a TA with the appropriate permissions, and should know the sorts of tasks that they will be asked to complete in that course to make best use of their time in the session.
A required pre-requisite to the workshop is Unit 3: Using LEARN Tools as a TA in Teaching Online: Basic Skills for TAs (CTE1406). Undergraduate and graduate TA's can access the module through the Teaching Assistant Training LEARN site. If you are a graduate student participating in the Fundamentals of University Teaching program, you can also access the module through the LEARN site for the Fundamentals of University Teaching program. This online module will introduce you to the online learning environment and strategies for being an effective TA for remote and online courses. You will learn about the unique needs of online students the role of TAs in online courses useful tools in the learning management system and strategies for communicating with students, facilitating online discussions, and providing feedback.
This session will be offered remotely through MS Teams. Registrants will receive a link to join the session, 24 hours before the session begins.
