Spring 2022

The University of Waterloo continues to implement plans and protocols for safe on-campus activities, following public health advice and best practices. Below are some information and resources particularly relevant to the transitional nature of the Spring term.

Strategies and tools for flexible teaching

  • Contact your CTE Liaison for assistance with redesigning assignments or course elements.
  • Contact CEL's Agile Development Team for a quick consult or help with creating online components, activities, multimedia, using LEARN tools and more.
  • See CTE's Resilient Course Design tip sheet for general guidance on planning a course with flexibility in mind.
  • Visit the Tool Comparison page on the CEL Open Resources site to evaluate your options if you want to do synchronous online teaching in your course.
  • Consult the Exam and Assessment Resources for guidance around assessment options.
  • Visit the Media Production Services knowledge base webpage for assistance with in-studio or on-site video recording and editing.

Classroom technology in registrar-managed rooms

  • Visit IST's rooms in use webpage to see what technology options are available in your classroom, particularly if you would like to do live streaming, recording or video conference with guests. If your room does not include recording equipment, or if you wish to record video or audio outside of the classroom, their knowledge base has best practice tips for video and audio recording available to assist you, or you can request  assistance emailing waterloostudio@uwaterloo.ca.
  • See Captioning capabilities of University-supported platforms in the IST knowledge base for information about live captioning and transcriptions.
  • Training videos for the technologies in these rooms are available on the IST website, but it is advisable to book an introductory session in your room by emailing eclass@uwaterloo.ca.
  • One change to note: you will no longer need to borrow a microphone (please return any you borrowed to the IST Service Desks). Each Registrar classroom will be equipped with microphones. You will be provided with individual windscreens (a microphone cover) to minimize the risk related to handling and speaking with a microphone. Windscreens may be picked up from the Dana Porter and Davis Center IST Service Desks if you do not already have one or need a replacement.

Library Support

  • Visit the Library’s Covid 19 Updates page to see their most recent information.
  • Course Reserve requests for the spring term are being accepted via their request page. Both electronic and print reserves services will be offered. Course Reserves ensures that posted material is copyright compliant and accessible. Questions about course reserves can be emailed to libreser@uwaterloo.ca.
  • If you are looking for material for your course and would like assistance, please contact your subject librarian to arrange a consultation.
