In spring 2014, professor Marina Mourtzakis of the Department of Kinesiology received the province of Ontario's Early Researcher Award.

The Early Researcher Awards program helps promising and recently appointed researchers make new discoveries while creating jobs for graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows and research assistants. The award consists of $150,000 over five years to support the development of a research team.

Mourtzakis's research focuses on nutrition and exercise therapies that will help improve the health of breast cancer survivors and reduce the recurrence of the disease among this group.
