University of Waterloo Stakeholder Workshop

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 (all day)

This full-day workshop, held at the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA), was intended to promote collaborations between stakeholders in the Great Lakes Region and researchers at the University of Waterloo, working on various aspects of protecting and improving water quality in streams, lakes and groundwater in the Great Lakes Region.

The focus was on establishing links by which researchers (science, engineering, environment, economics, etc.) can collaborate with stakeholder to address key knowledge gaps needed to inform policy and management in the context of nutrient pollution issues in surface water and groundwater.

The workshop was primarily sponsored by two projects that just started at the University of Waterloo:

  • NSERC Strategic Project Grant on Reactive interfaces in agroecosystems: quantifying coupled biogeochemical dynamics across scales using a comprehensive lab-field-modeling approach Reactive Interfaces in Agroecosystems
  • Water Joint Programming Initiative funded collaborative project with the European Union on Legacies of Agricultural Pollutants (LEAP): Integrated Assessment of Biophysical and Socioeconomic Controls on Water Quality in Agroecosystems

A report on the outcomes of the workshop will be circulated to participating stakeholders and researchers.
