Library ambassadors: written by Hinal Bharadva

Hey UWaterloo! My name is Hinal and I’m in my 2A term of Legal Studies and Business. Since I began my journey at UWaterloo, I have been using the abundance of services and resources the libraries offer. When the opportunity came to apply to be a part of the Library Ambassador team, I knew I had to do it. It was a great way to get involved on campus, meet new people, all while learning and building new skills (leadership, collaboration, communication) that are applicable for my future career.

As a Library Ambassador, I have represented the university at various campus and library outreach events. Within the first few weeks of starting this job, I represented the library at the campus life fair, orientation events, and providing information and greeting students in Dana Porter and Davis Center Library for the first two weeks of the term. In addition to this, I had the amazing opportunity to create and execute a term project. My fellow friend, and Library Ambassador Haley and I executed a postcard contest for first year students in residence to encourage and promote library services. Our project was a lot of fun because we got to hand out postcards to first year students in various residences. We had a great time talking to the students and promoting our contest.

One of my favourite parts of being a Library Ambassador is the people I meet. As an Ambassador you are constantly interacting with students and staff members, which has given me the chance to build great relationships with people who are not only fun to be with, but also help you learn and grow.

My journey as a Library Ambassador, has been nothing less than amazing. Being a Library Ambassador is great because you get to learn, grow and have fun all at the same time. For the remainder of the term, my goal is to work on my public speaking and collaboration skills.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you around the library!
