Reconciliation Learning Circle SeriesExport this event to calendar

Thursday, June 16, 2022 — 1:00 PM to Thursday, July 14, 2022 — 3:30 PM EDT

This series of four learning circles engages with faculty in appreciative and compassionate inquiry around TRC Call to Action 65. Both faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

  • TRC Call 65:

“We call upon the federal government, through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, post-secondary institutions and education, and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and its partner institutions, to establish a national research program with multi-year funding to advance understanding of reconciliation.”

In the first circle, faculty will be introduced with a discussion of “What is Indigenist Teaching and Research?” found in the edited collection of essays of Shawn Wilson, Andrea Breen and Lindsay DuPré listed below. The second circle considers Indigenous Knowledges around Mino-bimaadisiwin and four aspects of the Sacred Law or Original Instructions of the Anishinaabe and opens ceremony to offer an activity to practice “Allowing.” The circle following will include sharing from the personal experiences drawn from the “Allowing” activity in circle two as we read and share our thoughts from Chapter 10 “Indigenizing the Academy: Listen to the Stories.” The final circle highlights the practice of “talking in circles” as an Indigenous method of engaging questioning, learning, searching, reflecting, and participating in reconciliation and closes with Reflections and Gratitudes for all those participating.

This workshop addresses TRC Call to Action #65 and creates a space for reflection and sharing related to the call. Physical and online copies of the book are available through the Library:
