You can now request items from most University of Waterloo libraries (Dana Porter Library, Davis Centre Library, Witer Learning Resource Centre, and the Conrad Grebel Milton Good Library), for pickup at either Musagetes Library or Dana Porter Library, or have items mailed to your out-of-town address with a postage-paid return label. 

This service is available for the University’s faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows who require access to materials in the print collections. Learn more about book pickup and delivery services, or see below for instructions.

How to place requests

  1. Log in to Omni, the library's catalogue, to search for items 
  2. In the item detail, you will see two options:
    • Get it from a Waterloo library
    • Request a digitized chapter/article/excerpt
  3. Select Get it from a Waterloo library to access the request form
    1. Change the Pickup Location to Book Pickup @ School of Architecture, Cambridge, another desired pickup location or Books by Mail
    2. Add a comment, if desired
    3. Submit!
  4. You will see a "Your request was successfully placed" message and be able to view all your requests in your library account
  5. Library staff will contact you if there is a digital copy available, or with any other questions about your requests 

Pickup procedures

Requests will be available for pickup Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m., no appointment necessary. You will receive an email notification for each print item when it is available for pickup. New requests are processed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

When picking up items at the School of Architecture:

  1. Wear a mask
  2. Enter the School of Architecture from the Melville Street entrance; follow the physical distancing instructions posted and sign in on the available sheet
  3. Show your WatCard or library cardto the security guard
  4. Items will be signed out to your account in advance. Locate the books labelled with your name, which will be filed alphabetically on the pickup table
  5. Exit through the rear doors leading to the patio area

If you are unable to pick up your items, please contact us.

Returning borrowed items

Library items can also be returned during the pickup times.

  1. Wear a mask
  2. Enter the School of Architecture from the Melville Street entrance; follow the physical distancing instructions posted and sign in on the available sheet
  3. Show your WatCard or library card
  4. Place your books in the grey bins on the table
  5. Exit through the rear doors leading to the patio area

Books will remain on your library account for one to two weeks after you have returned them. Books can be returned to the outdoor return bins on the Waterloo campus any time.

Temporary changes to our borrowing policies

The following have been suspended, due to COVID-19:

  • Recalls
  • Holds on physical items that are already signed out
  • Name release
