The Warren and Mary Ober Group Study Rooms on the 10th floor of the Dana Porter Library opened in April 2012. The group study rooms were renovated recently with a generous seed donation from the Mary and Warren Ober Foundation.
The new rooms incorporate accessibility and universal design principles to create a welcoming study space for all students. They have been completely refurbished and include: new furniture, ample electrical and data outlets, adjustable lighting, and whiteboards.
Feedback from students has been very positive:
“This space is great! Soundproof. Big tables. Bright. Enough chairs.
Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Ober”
"This looks beautiful. Thanks for your generosity, Mr. & Mrs. Ober. WE LOVE IT!"
"Amazing, the space, the colours, provide a calming space for studying"
Warren Ober, a Distinguished Professor Emeritus, was a faculty member in the Department of English from 1965 until 1994. During his tenure he was, and continues to be, a strong library supporter and an especially strong supporter of students.
With this donation, the Obers provided an incentive for library staff to explore what quality study rooms in the Library could look like for students. Their findings were turned into a reality with these two rooms and will also inform the direction of future renovations to group study rooms within the Library.
