SUMMARY:Management Sciences Seminar | Xuan Zhao: \"Tax or Subsidy? An Analy
sis\nof Environmental Policies in Supply Chains with Retail Competition\"
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:This paper investigates the impacts of two environmental polici
es:\npollution abatement subsidy and emission tax\, on a three-tier supply
\nchain\, where the manufacturer distributes via multiple competitive\nret
ailers and invests in a pollution abatement technology in\nmanufacturing.
The government pursues social welfare maximization\,\nwhile the manufactur
er and retailers are profit driven. We find that\nthe subsidy policy offer
s the manufacturer greater incentives to abate\npollution and yields highe
 r profits for channel members.
