SUMMARY:MASc thesis seminar | Yaohan Li: \"Patent Technological Diversity a
 nd\nExamination Outcomes in China\"
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:This study examines how duration of patent examination is affec
ted by\ntechnological diversity of patent applications\, using a sample of
  all\npharmaceutical patent applications filed between 1985 and 2017 at\nC
hina’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO). Patent\nexamination is
a crucial process to evaluate the patentability of\ntechnological inventi
ons. To understand what factors influence patent\nexamination duration can
offer strategic insights for both patent\napplicants and patent system de
 signers.

CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:A Cross-Dock (CD) is a synchronized unit of a supply chain netw
ork\,\nused to sort the goods received from inbound trucks (from a warehou
se\nor factory)\, and load those products to outbound trucks (for delivery
\nof the goods to retail stores in the supply chain network). Most\ncross-
docks use forklifts\, and other manual material handling\nequipment (MHE)
to process the goods on pallets received from inbound\ntrucks. Those palle
ts are sorted and loaded onto outbound trucks.

CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The transportation of hazardous materials (hazmat) has drawn\ns

acts on the environment and public health. Focusing on the\nconnection bet
ween the traffic and the risk associated with the hazmat\nshipments\, the
present research aims to assist the regulator in\ndesigning a policy of du
al tolls\, imposed on both hazmat and\nnon-hazmat shipments\, to mitigate
the hazmat risk in a road network.

SUMMARY:MASc Thesis Seminar | Mohammad Alqssem Alzaeem: \"A Lagrangian Appr
oach\nfor The Airfreight Cosolidation Problem Under Pivot-weight\"
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:International airfreight forwarders are faced with the problem
of\nconsolidating shipments for effcient transportation by airline\ncarrie
rs. The use of standard unit loading devices (ULDs) is a\nsolution adopted
by the airfreight industry to speed up cargo loading\,\nincrease safety\,
and protect cargo. We study the airfreight\nconsolidation problem from th
e forwarders perspective where a decision\non the number of ULDs used and
the assignment of shipments to ULDs is\noptimized. The cost of using a ULD
consists of a fixed charge and\ndepends on the weight of the cargo it con
 tains.
