Fall 2018 ExpecTAtions teaching assistant workshop

ExpecTAtions is a two-day workshop that prepares Waterloo Engineering students to undertake a teaching assistantship. To serve as a TA, you are required to complete the ExpecTAtions workshop. After full attendance and successful completion of all required activities you will receive a certificate noting your achievement.

Over the two days, you will work in small, discipline-specific groups. Each group is assigned two mentors: one faculty member and one student with experience as a TA. These faculty and student mentors will work closely with you to help prepare you for the TA role by sharing their valuable experiences and unique perspectives. Through a combination of small-group and online activities, you will learn about the roles and responsibilities of TAs, practise giving lessons and marking student work, and examine the working relationships between TAs, professors and students.

Workshop schedule

As there are limited spaces in ExpecTAtions, those unable to commit to the full workshop may not register.

To receive a certificate of completion you must attend the entire workshop, no partial credit will be granted. 

Morning refreshments and lunch is provided on both days. We suggest you bring a refillable water bottle.
Required materials will be provided on day one.

Students will be invited to register for the December 4-5, 2018 offering of ExpecTAtions by their department contact. Registration closes November 2.
