Current and former graduate students receive awards at the 2018 CORS conference

CORS 2018 award winners

A number of current and past graduate students of the Department of Management Sciences were recently honoured at the 2018 Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) annual conference, held June 4-6 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Taghi Khaniyev, a PhD student, won first prize in the Student Paper Competition - Open Category for his paper “Spatial separability in hub location problems with an application to brain connectivity networks”. His research is supervised by Professors Fatih S. Erenay and Samir Elhedhli.

In the same category, Gohram Baloch (a MASc student) received an honourable mention  for his paper “UAV service with competition under technological and regulatory limitations”. He is supervised by Professor Fatma Gzara.

Finally, Dr. Mahmut Parlar, a former PhD student and currently a Distinguished Business Research Professor at McMaster’s DeGroute School of Business, won the prestigious Award of Merit for significant contributions to the profession of Operational Research.
