The stock market crash of 1987

This documentary film explores the biggest one-day stock market crash in U.S. history. On an otherwise nondescript Monday in October 1987, global stock markets crashed with the New York stock market losing 25% of its value, and the Toronto market losing over 11%. Interestingly, many of these markets bounced back the following day with record setting gains.

Orange County bankruptcy

In 1994, Orange County California, home of Anaheim, Santa Fe, and the TV series "The OC", declared bankruptcy. The county's financial officer, Bob Citron, was found to have invested heavily in leveraged fixed income instruments, including some rather complex securities. With an increase in interest rates, the investments lost $1.6 billion.

Double degree grad dinner

2012 graduate dinner for double degree (DD) students

The 2012 Grad dinner for the 2012 class of double degree students was held at the WildCraft. Each graduate was given the special DD pink tie pin in recognition of their accomplishments. For those who were unable to attend the dinner, if you have not collected your special DD pink tie pin, please see Joan in Mathematics (M3) 2001.

Its stock market value was $150 billion and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was on Forbes’ list of the 200 richest men in the country. Its assets exceeded $100 billion, its revenues were over $30 billion, it had 20 million retail customers and its corporate clientele included the U.S.

Double degree (DD) 1st Annual Alumni/Student Softball Tournament

Join us on June 23 for the first annual double degree alumni softball tournament. Enjoy games, a barbecue and good times with alumni and current students.

Each participant will also receive a free game T-shirt. Students are $25 each and alumni are $50. All proceeds will go towards a new DD scholarship.

London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) - history and scandal

On June 27, 2012, Barclays Bank, the fourth largest bank in the world, was fined a total of U.S. $470 million for manipulating the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR). At least a dozen more banks are being questioned by regulators worldwide to determine what role they played in manipulating this benchmark interest rate, currently used in over $350 trillion of interest rate contracts around the globe.
