Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) vulnerabilities and removal

Monday, December 19, 2016

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to recently reported vulnerabilities IST strongly recommends uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) on all home or non-managed computers as soon as possible. SEP support at the University of Waterloo has ended. A list of recommended alternative anti-virus products is available at https://uwaterloo.ca/ist/endpoint-protection-product-recommendations.

Who does this affect? Users running a Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) installation acquired through the Waterloo license on a home or non-managed computer.

UPDATE: Steps for removing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) from a home or non-managed computer are now available on the IST website, https://uwaterloo.ca/information-systems-technology/services/endpoint-protection/steps-symantec-endpoint-protection-sep-removal

Please put in a Request if you need help uninstalling SEP from your MFCF supported machine.
