Dean's Message - August 2013

A warm welcome to the Statistical Science in Society Conference participants, on campus to celebrate the International Year of Statistics and launch of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute.

Congratulations to International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) Team Canada: students Calvin Deng, Andy Huang, Angus Kong and Yuanhao Wei, with coaches Troy Vasiga and J.P. Pretti, who brought home a silver and two bronze medals from the 25th IOI in Brisbane, Australia.

I would also like to congratulate the undergraduate Waterloo Mathematics Review editors on publishing volume II issue two.

It was great to see Kevin Lamb and IIT student Aritra Sasmal in the news recently.

The sixth floor of Mathematics & Computing Building (MC) is almost ready!

Looking ahead to the fall, Faculty of Mathematics Teaching Fellow Cyntha Struthers is organizing a Teaching Workshop for New and Nearly New Instructors in Mathematics and Computer Science (CS) for September 6. The Ignite Our Teaching Practice component of this workshop might be of interest to any instructor in the Faculty.
