Dean's Message - August 2014

Congratulations to the Canadian International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) team, led by J.P. Pretti and Troy Vasiga. High school competitors Jacob Jackson, Timothy Li, Ben Zhang and Zihao Zhang represented Canada in Taipei at this year’s algorithm and programming competition. The team brought home one gold and two bronze medals.

Congratulations also to Frank Tompa. His colleagues have organized the conference: “Exploiting Text: A text research workshop in honour of Frank Wm. Tompa”, to take place on campus August 7-8.

A teaching workshop for ‘new and nearly new’ instructors will be held September 5. There is also a component for more experienced instructors: "Ignite Our Teaching Practice".

The space on Mathematics & Computing Building (MC) sixth floor that was occupied by Information Systems & Technology (IST) will be turned over to the Faculty of Mathematics once IST staff move to their new home in one of the Blackberry buildings. We are developing plans to renovate the new space as soon as possible after that happens.
