Dean's Message - June 2015

Congratulations to the Waterloo Black ACM team of Volodymyr Lyubinets, Deon Nicholas, Geoffry Song, coached by Troy Vasiga, who finished 13th out of 128 teams at the ICPC World Finals in Morocco last week. 

Congratulations also to colleagues in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science and the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing, for their multiyear initiative to strengthen the actuarial profession in Indonesia. The Risk Management, Economic Sustainability and Actuarial Science Development in Indonesia (READI) project will receive total funding of $16.5 million from the federal government (Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada) and Manulife.

I am pleased to announce that effective July 1, Srinivasan Keshav will become Associate Dean, Graduate Studies. A big thank you to outgoing Associate Dean Yuying Li, who will finish her term June 30.

Renovations to the MC 6th floor south end are complete. The Admissions and Outreach and Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing teams will be moving in starting in early June.

The Faculty of Mathematics convocation ceremonies will take place on Friday, June 12. Please consider joining colleagues on stage and at the receptions afterward, to help our students and their families celebrate their accomplishments.
