Congratulations to the 26 students from our Faculty who were announced recently as 2013-2014 Academic All-Canadians. Second year Mathematics student and figure skater Alexandra McDonald was among the University's four student-athletes recognized this year as the top academic achievers in the classroom, surpassing a 93% average while competing for the Warriors.
Sue Ann Campbell, Amenda Chow, Barbara Csima, Lilia Kivodonova and Yulia Gel are all featured in the Ontario Chair for Women in Science and Engineering celebration of women in mathematics.
A wonderful memorial to Bill Tutte was unveiled recently in his hometown of Newmarket in the U.K. Retired colleague Dan Younger was a featured guest, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet with young members of the Bill Tutte Club.
This fall 2014 term marks the initiation of new communications courses for undergraduate Mathematics and Computer Science students, taught by Arts, St. Jerome’s University and Renison University College. To mark the occasion, Associate Dean Steve Furino visited each of the 52 small-enrolment sections of these courses at the beginning of the term, to emphasize their importance to the students. A big thank you to Steve and all of the others who helped bring this huge project together in less than a year!
In the spring term of 2015 we will be offering our undergraduate students a new international opportunity - to take their 2A math courses in Italy and France, taught by experienced instructors Conrad Hewitt and Francine Vinette.
