Mathematics/English Language for Academic Studies (Math/ELAS)

On your way to full-time degree status and your first year!

Congratulations and welcome to the Faculty of Mathematics' Math/ELAS!

If your academic background indicates that you have the potential to do very well in mathematics or computer science, but, your English language test score is below our minimum requirements, then our admissions team will automatically consider you for an alternative Offer of Admission to our Mathematics/English Language for Academic Studies - Math/ELAS program.

The Faculty of Mathematics works in partnership with Conestoga College in delivering this program to promising mathematics students, who require help with their English skills, before going into a Mathematics or Computer Science degree studies. Through our Math/ELAS program, you will improve your English language skills, to meet our English language admission requirements, and this will greatly increase your chances for success at university.

Successful completion of the Math/ELAS program qualifies you for full-time regular studies in the Faculty of Mathematics and Cheriton School of Computer Science.

During your Math/ELAS program you will attend two separate campuses for an academic term (4 months). You are a registered student once term fees are paid, and your home-base is the University of Waterloo. You will be taking your credit course in math (Math 137 - Calculus 1) and begin earning your degree.
You will take four - Level 4 English language enrichment courses along with one elective course at Conestoga College-Waterloo campus. 
NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 all ELAS courses will be delivered online during the fall 2020.
