Check your offer and conditions
You will need to respond to your Offer of Admission online, through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). You have 14 days after the date on your Offer of Admission to respond.
After your final grades are available, you will need to make sure that you have met any conditions specified on your official Offer of Admission. Some conditions may also be listed on your online account in Quest.
If you have questions about your offer of admission, conditions, transcripts, or documents, (including English language test scores) follow up with the Registrar's Office - Admissions by email at myapplication@uwaterloo.ca.
NOTE: Due to the high volume of email inquiries it may take a few days for a follow up response.
Visa and Study Permits
It is your responsibility to arrange the correct visas and permits in order to study in Canada. You must follow the application procedures set by Citizenship and Immigration Canada in your country.
If studying in Canada you will need to obtain a Study Permit. Visitors from some countries require a Temporary Resident Visa to study in Canada.

Arrange your living accommodations through on-campus housing and residence, with $500 deposit by the deadline.
Your residence fees will depend on which residence you are in and on which meal plan you choose.

Course Selection Details
As a Math/ELAS you will be enrolled in only 1 MATH course (MATH) 137 - Calculus) for the fall term.
New Math Students You must log into the course selection site to select your Math course.
You will be placed into the 'reserved' ELAS section.
Note: If you are to receive transfer credit for MATH 137, then we will place you into the next required core MATH course (typically MATH 135 or MATH 138).
Check your math class schedule online on Quest - beginning July 30.
You are automatically scheduled into your five (ELAS) English Language courses.
Fall term: Tuesday September 8, 2020
Your ELAS courses timetable will become available to you on the first day of classes. Conestoga College will provide details on how to access your ELAS information.
Due to the COVID-19 all your fall 2020 ELAS courses will be delivered online only.
NOTE: ELAS courses will not be posted in Waterloo's Quest system
New Math Students - ELAS
Winter term course selection: We will automatically place our Math/ELAS students into their full-time core courses for their winter term (January - April). More details will be sent to students in mid-September.
MTHEL 199 for ELAS students
We believe that MTHEL 199 for ELAS students will be especially helpful since many students were unable to finish high school mathematics during this unusual circumstances due to the global pandemic.
ELAS students will take MTHEL 199 from August 4 to September 14 and enrolled in LEARN, to allow you to complete the course before your English language courses and math in September.

Student fees
Visit the Finance-Student Accounts office for a complete breakdown of undergraduate program student fees for Canadian/permanent residents and international students.
Your fees will be posted to your student account online in Quest, (end-July). Fee statements/invoices are not mailed out to students.

Note: If you do not 'arrange your fees' by the deadline date, you will be charged late fees - even if your course/class selection has not been finalized.

How to pay your fees
The best way to pay fees posted on your student account in Quest, is by bank payment - using online or telephone banking or at your bank.
International students are encouraged to pay their student fees from outside of Canada, through GlobalPay for Students. This option allows you to pay your student fees in the currency of your choice which then converts into Canadian dollars.

Orientation events
International Orientation takes place September 2 - 4. Registration is required.

The on-campus section MATH class is held at the UWaterloo campus, from 8:30 - 9:20 am each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. Details will be provided from your MATH instructor.
Tuesday, September 8, 2020 - fall term is the start of your online ELAS courses.
Conestoga College representative's will follow up with you for welcome information. They will provide details on how you can access your English language class timetable and purchase textbooks.
You are expected to attend all meets of courses for which you are registered. Program regulations include attendance for evaluation purposes. Your performance this term, will determine your status for future post-secondary studies here at UWaterloo.
Obtaining your WatCard
The WatCard is your official photo identification card to access many services and facilities both on and off campus.
You can upload your photo so you can get the photo you want on your WatCard.

Quest is UWaterloo's online enrolment and student information system. You can:
- Select courses (if applicable)/check your schedule.
- View your tuition and fees, including residence fees and financial aid.
- Update your personal information, address and more.
Activate your UWaterloo Email account. All messages from Waterloo will be sent to your new UWaterloo email address.
Be sure you provide and update on your local address, phone number, and personal details in Quest before or at the start of the term.

Congratulations and we are so excited to welcome you to our Math/ELAS program and to join our Waterloo community! I am the Math/ELAS Program Coordinator at the University of Waterloo and will be one of your main contacts throughout your first term.
The University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics has worked in partnership with Conestoga College’s Language Institute for over 20 years (1997) on the development and collaboration of the ELAS academic program. Waterloo Conestoga College offers the preparatory language program – English Language for Academic Studies (ELAS) option to our mathematics students. During the fall academic term, you will improve new language skills while completing a math course for credit towards your BMath or BCS degree.
As we prepare for a combined approach to learning for the fall term in light of COVID-19, we know this is a challenging time to begin your studies at Waterloo. Be sure that you are checking your UW email account regularly for updated information to prepare for your first term.
