The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science is holding the second annual Waterloo Conference in Statistics, Actuarial Science, and Finance on April 30 & May 1, 2020.

This year's conference will focus on the theme: Biostatistics: Foundations and the Era of Data Science. Other areas of focus will include the use of data from diverse sources, electronic health records, and causal inference and prediction.

After rapidly presenting how symmetries play an interesting role in nature, art, and science, François Bergeron and Members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony will explain and illustrate how Bach mathematical symmetries in writing the scores for his music. This will partly be done via an interplay between a pictoral description of the symmetries of the scores, and a live rendition by musicians of the result for the audience.
