Friday, June 26, 2020 12:00 pm - 12:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

The Defence and Security Foresight Group (DSF-G) is cohosting a lunch-and-learn webinar with the Waterloo Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute (CPI).

This event will feature a panel discussion with —
  • Douglas Stebila, CPI, University of Waterloo
  • Plinio Morita, CPI, University of Waterloo
  • Bessma Momani, DSF-G, University of Waterloo
  • Moderated by Florian Kerschbaum, CPI, University of Waterloo
The panel will discuss the implications of emerging COVID-19 contact-tracing apps from the perspectives of their respective faculties. Notably, they will discuss how Canadian jurisdictions are developing and deploying contact-tracing apps without sufficient technical review by independent security and privacy experts. This panel will highlight how such reviews should be conducted by experts from the Canadian security and privacy ecosystem, with a mandate to protect civil liberties and uphold the highest ethical and technical standards.
