Bilikent University


Why should I study here?

  • Bilkent is the #4 ranked university in Turkey (QS 2022).
  • Established in 1984, the university is an acronym of bilim kenti, Turkish for ‘city of science and knowledge’ with all courses taught in English.
  • Located in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, along with 18 other universities. Ankara has five classical music orchestras, four concert halls, a range of theatres, approx. 50 museums and is known for its enthusiasm for soccer, skateboarding and handball.

What majors/plans would be a good fit for this school? 

Math students can find appropriate major courses in the Department of Mathematics (Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics and Optimization and Pure Mathematics), Faculty of Business Administration, and the Department of Information Systems and Technologies (Computer Science).

Bilkent uses the ECTS system with 30 ECTS being equivalent to 2.5 units at Waterloo. Generally, courses range from 5 to 6.5 ECTS, which is equivalent to 1 0.5 units at Waterloo.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU)


Why should I study here? 

What majors/plans would be a good fit for this school? 

Math students can find appropriate courses within the Faculty of Computer and Informatics and within the Faculty of Science and Letters in the Department of Mathematics Engineering.

Kadir Has University


Why should I study here?

  • A young university, established in 1997 and named after the late Turkish philanthropist, Kadir Has.
  • Located in Istabul, Turkey on the European side of the city. The building was originally a tobacco factory constructed in 1884 and it took over 4 years to restore to become Kadir Has University.
  • The campus is also home to the Rezan Has Museum (named for the wife of Kadir Has), featuring an 11th century cistern and the ruins of an Ottoman era bath.

What majors/plans would be a good fit for this school? 

Computer Science students can find some appropriate courses in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences within the Department of Computer Engineering.

Middle East Technical University (METU)


Why should I study here?

  • Ranked #3 university in Turkey (QS 2022).
  • Located in Ankara, Turkey, the campus is surrounded by forest and includes Lake Eymir, available to METU students for rowing, fishing, and picnicking.
  • The majority of courses are available in English.

What majors/plans would be a good fit for this school? 

Math students can find appropriate courses in the Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Business Administration within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the department of Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering.

METU uses the ECTS system of credits for its courses. A full course load can range from 4-6 courses equalling 25-30 ECTS per a term. Courses can range from 2 to 10 ECTS. 25-30 ECTS equals 2.5 units at Waterloo with 5-6 ECTS equal to 1 0.5 Waterloo course.
